Torpor

This hummingbird is hanging upside down in a kind of resting state called torpor. He or she must have been tired. I watched as it perched normally, then slowly eased backward until it was in this position. Stayed there for a few minutes, then flew away. I thought it was pretty bizarre behavior until I did some research and found it to be quite common.
